How Pick-to-Light Works?
In a Pick-to-Light process flow, the Light Directing Terminals are installed at the locations housing the SKUs. Users initiate the picking process by scanning the order/carton into which the items need to be picked. The Light Directed Terminals guide the user to the location and provide information about the SKU and the quantities to be picked for the order/carton.
The LED screen displays the pick quantity as well as other meta-data for accurate fulfillment, and can be zoned to size for operations and/or re-zoned on the fly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is pick-to-light (PTL) technology?
Pick-to-Light is a light-directed process designed to guide users in picking products in a warehouse across process flows such as eCommerce Order Fulfillment, B2B Process Flows, Replenishment to Stores, Kitting, and manufacturing.
How does a pick-to-light system improve picking accuracy?
Light Directing Terminals are installed at the locations housing the SKUs. Once a user scans the order or carton, the terminals guide the user to the correct location and display the SKU and quantity to pick, which is what drives the accuracy and efficiency gain over manual picking.
How are pick-to-light zones organized for warehouse picking?
Typical Pick-to-Light aisles are split into multiple Pick Zones, with users assigned to specific zones for picking items for cartons/orders. VCO’s Pick-to-Light also enables multiple users to work concurrently within a single Pick Zone.
Does VCO offer a pick-to-light cart or light directed pick cart?
Yes, while Pick-to-Light terminals are installed at fixed SKU locations, VCO’s Pick/Put Cart applies the same light-directed picking approach in a mobile format, with light-directed picking on both sides of the cart.
Does VCO's pick-to-light software integrate with an existing WMS?
Yes, VCO’s platform offers out-of-the-box support for File, TCP/IP sockets, and HTTP protocol with Flat, JSON, and XML formats, easing integration to platforms such as Warehouse Management Systems, ERPs, auto-baggers, and PandA systems.
Is a pick-to-light system used in manufacturing environments?
Yes, manufacturing is listed as one of the process flows Pick-to-Light supports, alongside eCommerce order fulfillment, B2B process flows, replenishment to stores, and kitting.
What's the difference between pick-to-light and put-to-light systems?
Pick-to-Light guides users to pick individual items from SKU locations into an order or carton, while Put-to-Light guides users to distribute already batch-picked inventory out to retail locations/cartons.
How much can a pick-to-light system reduce labor requirements?
VCO’s Pick-to-Light solution can reduce labor requirements by up to 50%.
